This photo is one of those personal moments that can’t be captured in a photo. I was taking a break near the river eating lunch. There was a strike by the MTA workers that started this morning. Personally, I loved it, just got the bike out and rode into work that day. Took me 20 minutes to reach central park. Only 2 other technicians from my company made it into Manhattan that morning.

I rode around all day making service calls and doing whatever I could to keep our customers happy. Most notably fixed a major problem on the Life safety system at CUNY Baruch down at 55 Lexington ave. I was stoked that NYC didn’t even come close to just shutting down and it was business as usual despite a few people who found an excuse not to show up to work as opposed to finding solutions.

My wife walked all the way from 54th st. & 39th Ave. in Queens to near the Queensboro bridge, and hopped in with some people driving across the bridge. (Rule was, no cars with less than 5 people were allowed to drive into the city) thus making picking up a stranger on the way in necessary for most people.

Out of all the city’s I’ve lived in I think NYC has one of the strongest will powers out there. Nothing can seem to slow it down much, even major disasters and it’s main arteries shutting down don’t disturb the fast paced rhythm here.
